It doesn't happen to us very often, but when our copy to dropbox fails it would be nice to not have the temporary local copy of the backup to be deleted automatically. This causes us to lose our backup chain, since we don't have all of our log files. Is this something that could be done.

thanks
Tom

Hello,

Thank you for the feature request!
We have improved app behavior for this case in SqlBak Client and we are going to implement it in next big release of SQLBackupAndFTP.
If backup file was not sent to any destination, SqlBak will create full backup in next scheduled job running. So, you do not get a broken backup chain. The application creates a new chain using full backup after failed transaction log backup.

Regards,
Alexey.

Alexey,
That sounds good but my backup chain will still be broken, It'll just start a new one. If I have backups every 2 hours I could have 4 hours worth of unrecoverable data in your scenario. Backup at 1000hrs, broken at 1200hrs, new full at 1400hrs. If we had a failure or data corruption at 1345hrs the best we could do is go back to 1000hrs. I'm just suggesting that when you look at failure of copying a file to offsite storage, the local copy doesn't get deleted and a message is sent or stored that some manual movement of files needs to be done. You could still kick a full backup off on next run to start a new chain, but we need existing chain to remain recoverable.

Thanks
Tom

Tom,
Thank you for the feedback! Probably the better solution will be have an ability to add an 'emergency' destination and use it if a backup image was not sent to other destinations due any error. So, you could create an 'emergency' folder destination to keep backups on your local computer.
We'll consider this issue soon.

Regards,
Alexey.

Yes, that would have the same outcome.

Thank you for the consideration.
